Three exhibitions bridge the Penwith's present with its past

Three shows open simultaneously in the Penwith Gallery that have a neat symbiotic relationship reflecting the current and the past in the Society. The members have mounted their second show for the year in conjunction with an invitation to include the display of a work from the constructionist Terry Pope and a unique exhibition of lens-based studies and commentary by the photographer and writer, Michael Carter.

The Penwith Society and the London Group combine for the second part of their exchange

Following the highly successful exhibition of the Penwith Society at the London Group’s home gallery, the Cello Factory in London’s Waterloo in the spring of this year, sevent-four of the London Group collective are showing throughout the month in conjunction with the Society in the Penwith Gallery, arranged to coincide with the St Ives September Festival.

Plymouth Society at Artmill Gallery is one of the best

The Plymouth Society of Artists opened its 2018 exhibition at the Artmill Gallery on Friday evening last with what has been widely regarded as one of the best this collective has produced in many a year. Curated by Isabell Peirson, the exhibition presents work of the highest order, a display of imagination and ingenuity, of rich vibrant colour with excellent graphics and craftsmanship across the gamut of disciplines.

Cornwall / London “house swaps” for major UK artists’ collectives

Two of the UK’s longest-established and most prestigious artists’ collectives are “house swapping” this year with major exhibitions for members of the Penwith Society at The Cello Factory in central London and a return visit by The London Group to the Penwith Gallery in St Ives. Earlier in April the PSA transferred its first exhibition for 2018, with some notable additional work, to present the show to a new audience well beyond the River Tamar. The exchange will coincide with the St Ives Festival and the London Group taking over the Penwith’s New Gallery throughout September.

Academicians show at the Brownston Gallery

The Brownston Gallery presents its third annual exhibition of the work of a core group of members of the South West Academy. Catherine Gillen, Director, has curated the exhibition with paintings selected from the members and the collaboration is becoming an established date in the gallery’s yearly programme.
